The United Nations and Israel
At the time of Israel’s founding, it did not seem to be such a major issue: the Jews settled in a sparsely populated, marshy area between the mountains and the sea. Indeed, the United Nations, almost unanimously, decided to divide Palestine between Jews and Arabs. The latter did not accept the plan, and a war began that has now lasted for three generations.
Certainly, at the beginning, the Jews were the “invaders.” But after nearly eighty years, destroying Israel has become an impossible dream pursued only by Islamic fundamentalists (Hamas), and not by the PLO, nor, above all, by the major Sunni nations. Only the Shiites, led by Iran, support Hamas (largely because of their rivalry with the Sunnis).
