The Individual and Society
In the modern world, unlike in the past, the members of society are individuals rather than families. It is often said that the emergence of individual personalities is linked to the Renaissance. However, it is also true that Christianity placed the individual at the center, since each person is responsible for their own actions before God, whether for salvation or damnation.
In the Old Testament, by contrast, we see that reward and punishment are often visited primarily upon one's descendants.
