Submission to the Husband

Paul’s celebrated passage on the hierarchical relationship between men and women sanctifies the marital relationship by elevating it and comparing it to the relationship between Christ and the faithful. However, in practice, the relationship was the one that seemed natural in his time, and continued to be so for centuries afterward, until quite recently. It was therefore not a new doctrine, but rather the sanctification of something that had seemed self-evident for millennia.

Try saying NOW that wives should submit to their husbands: you risk being lynched.
