Better and Best

When judging an event or a situation, one should not confuse the comparative better with the superlative best (that is, perfect). Perfection will never exist (for believers, only in Heaven), but one situation can certainly be better than another. There is less poverty in the West than in many other societies, and today's China is far more prosperous than it was under Mao.

People often say that democracy is full of flaws, but it has fewer flaws than other forms of government—it is simply the least bad system.
