Women's Subjugation

I do not believe this issue can be solved from a legal standpoint. If a Muslim, Catholic, or atheist woman accepts being raped and beaten by her husband, no crime exists in the legal sense; the authorities cannot intervene in the private relationship between two partners. There are even sadomasochistic (BDSM) couples.

Female infibulation is an exception because it is performed on minors, although in some European countries there are also medical centers that openly perform it.

The problem is cultural.

For centuries, it was taken for granted that the husband had authority over his wife; only in recent times has the principle of equality between spouses become established.
