Separation of the Sexes in Mosques
We modern Westerners consider it natural for men and women to live together. Yet for millennia, almost all civilizations have instead regarded it as normal and natural for men and women to live separately.
This is not originally a matter of religion, but rather a practice that religions adopt. When religions then draw on tradition, this separation re-emerges.
I also recall that until a few generations ago, even in Christian churches men and women sat separately.
