Colonialism and Development

European development is due to the fact that Europeans invented science and technology, not to the exploitation of colonies.
It is enough to note that the Scandinavian countries and Germany never had colonies, yet by the end of the 19th century they had become the most advanced countries in Europe, while Portugal and Spain kept their colonies for a long time and became the most backward nations.
