Historiography and Propaganda
Historiography cannot be equated with
political propaganda, even though the latter has its own importance.
To give an example:
we celebrate Garibaldi and criticize the Bourbons because that is how our
national consciousness was formed; but historians (starting with Croce, the
liberal par excellence) later saw that the situation is more complex: the people
were with the Bourbons, not with Garibaldi, for example, as is commonly said.
