It is unclear what will happen in that country.
Everyone expected Trump to help the opposition (Machado) regain power. Instead, to general astonishment, he seems to have ruled that out. It appears he only wants a Venezuela that is "friendly" to America.
But how is that possible if Venezuela remains governed by the same ideological party as before—a party whose very hallmark is anti-Americanism (understood as anti-capitalism)? And what will happen to the opposition, and to the millions of citizens living as refugees abroad? Will they become enemies of an America that supports their own enemies?
