Putin’s Letter
Regarding whether Ukrainians do or do not
belong to the Russian nation, it is said that every population may or may not
come to identify itself with a nation.
In fact, however, the same thing was said in Putin’s letter, in which, through a
long and meticulous historical excursus, he claimed that Ukrainians and Russians
are the same people, but that if Ukrainians wished to be a separate state, they
had the right to do so. In that case, however, the Russian-speaking populations
of Ukraine would likewise have the right to unite with Russia or not.
This is the same principle put forward by a group of Italian historians as a
solution to the conflict. But the Ukrainians absolutely reject this principle,
and the Russian referendums clearly appear to be unreliable.
