Religion and Worldview
In the past, the vision of a land at the center of the universe, all created together just a few millennia earlier along with humankind, predisposed people to faith far more than the idea of a land like a grain scattered in a universe born billions of years ago and of a human being descended from hominids: the creation of God thus becomes much less evident.
In short, in the Middle Ages, someone who saw a dog could hardly avoid thinking that it had not come into being by chance on its own, but that the work of God was required.
Now, instead, we think of evolution lasting millions of years. It is true that we can think in terms of intelligent design, but this is far less evident.
