Religions and Freedom
All religions, with their moral systems, do
not intend to repress people but to realize their true nature, their true will,
and to free human beings from what is contrary to their nature and will: the
goal they set for themselves is the liberation of humankind.
For example, if they prescribe feeding the hungry, it is because they believe
this to be in accordance with human nature and therefore something whose
fulfillment brings happiness.
The problem then is to consider whether what they indicate is indeed true human
nature, or whether letting others die is more in accordance with human nature.
