History and Law
History does not move according to legal facts
but according to historical–political assessments.
For example, Hitler invoked the principle of nationality to invade
Czechoslovakia and then Poland. France and England considered the Nazi arguments
understandable in the case of Czechoslovakia, but for Poland they judged them to
be mere pretexts for dominating the entire world and, in particular, for
creating Lebensraum (“living space”).
Today we think they were right about Poland and that they were wrong about
Czechoslovakia.
