What Hamas Is
In the West, HAMAS is considered a group of terrorists like the Red Brigades. But the Red Brigades had no following, no power; they were just a small group of fanatics who deluded themselves into thinking they could start a revolution. Had they ever run in elections, they wouldn’t even have reached the minimum threshold for representation.
Hamas, on
the other hand, has governed Gaza for a long time without opposition. It is
supported unreservedly by the population, who applauded them as heroes for
October 7.
Hamas represents Gaza—it is Gaza. Not
only that, but it also represents a significant part of the Arab world that sees
the destruction of Israel as the premise for an Islamic revival.
It is the same relationship Nazism had with Germany in the 1940s: indeed, the German army fought with exceptional determination.
