Concrete Political Discourse
When we speak of democracy, we must think of
England or Sweden; when we speak of communism, of Stalin and Mao; when we speak
of fascisms, of Mussolini and Hitler, and so on.
In other words, we must refer to concrete realities, to facts that actually took
place. If instead we use these terms to indicate something that exists only in
our mind, or a personal project or fantasy, the discussion remains abstract,
theoretical, inconclusive—just as when we talk about “true communism” or “true
democracy.”
