Immigrants and Culture

Of course, immigrants are free to maintain their own culture. However, a nation, especially if democratic, needs a certain underlying unity. If communities arise that do not share, for example, democracy, freedom of opinion, gender equality, etc., then they end up being marginalized. Suburbs like those in France are formed, along with ethnic tensions.
Now, if an immigrant comes from Eastern Europe, within a generation they will be indistinguishable from Italians; but if they are Islamic communities, they will remain distinct for countless generations.
