Effects of Bombings
There is often debate over whether the
bombings of Dresden, Tokyo, or Hiroshima were necessary or effective means to
win the war. If they had been useless, then they would have been pointless acts
of wickedness.
I do not know, but it seems to me that in total wars, breaking the enemy’s will
to fight is an essential element. It was said that not so much the bombings, but
rather the scarcity of food, water, medicine, and everything else made us
Italians want only for the war to end.
To me, the greater crime seems to be continuing a war that can no longer be won,
as the Germans and Japanese did in the last two years, and as HAMAS and other
extremists have been doing for decades
