Liberalism and Globalization
While liberalism can boost GDP growth, other factors must be considered.
Similarly, globalization, which is essentially an intensified form of international liberalism (like that of the 19th century during Marx's time), can increase global GDP but also presents significant problems.
First, there's the trade balance: it cannot be passive for the long term. Second, and I believe more importantly, it creates industrial desertification. Jobs for the weakest segments of the population are lost, leading to an increased polarization of income.
Just as domestic liberalism must have limits (like the welfare state), so too must globalization (global liberalism) have them. The tariffs that Trump talks about are generally necessary. The real problem, if anything, is that they need to be applied with careful criteria and prudence, just as social laws are.
