Regarding colonial empires, for one (or more) centuries there was a widespread belief in their righteousness — even in the moral duty to bring civilization. Kipling spoke of the “white man's burden,” and in Faccetta Nera people sang about the freedom and civilization being brought to the wretched of history.
When Mussolini proclaimed the empire, his popularity reached its peak — even many from the opposition applauded.
