Limits on the Individual

First and foremost, we must realize that the limits on an individual's actions generally do not come from the State. In practice—apart from traffic fines—I have never committed a crime, not so much because it is prohibited by law, but because such actions simply do not belong to my culture, of which the laws are generally a reflection.
I would never hit my wife—not because it is a crime, but because it goes against my way of thinking: my father would never have done such a thing, and when I fought with my sister as a child, everyone told me I should be ashamed for hitting a girl.
The limits come from the culture of the community to which I belong.
