Fidelity in Couples
Can
marital fidelity be considered merely a free agreement? And if someone changes
their mind over time, what then? Should they remain faithful just because of the
agreement, or can they withdraw from it?
But more importantly: isn’t jealousy, exclusivity, and mutual possession perhaps
the natural consequence of love and passion, rather than just an agreement?
Doesn’t it often happen that a relationship begins as an open one, and then one
of the two truly falls in love — and drama ensues?
On the other hand, the fundamental purpose of love that unites a couple is the
continuation of life — without which we would not even exist. Can an open couple
truly fulfill the task of raising and educating children?
