Holy War Against Israel
Arabs
generally conceive the struggle against Israel as a war of believers against
non-believers, against the great and little Satans—a metaphysical battle between
good and evil that will end with the direct intervention of Allah, the Merciful.
This isn’t such a strange idea: similar thoughts were held by the Jews who twice
rebelled against the Romans and were exterminated (modern Jews descend from
those who had already emigrated).
In the Middle Ages, there was the Crusade of the Paupers and even one of the
Children—all slaughtered by the Turks.
Even in the modern world, the Nazis spoke of “Gott mit uns,” and the Japanese of
the “wind of the gods” (kamikaze, which had scattered the Mongol invasion fleet):
fortunately, they were not exterminated, but their countries were flattened with
millions of deaths, and those mentalities disappeared.
