Freedom and Rules
Am I
free to take a walk down the main street? Certainly yes, but there are many
limits. First of all, time: I have a job, I need to take care of my children,
bring them to the gym, to their friends’ parties, and then there are so many
chores to take care of.
Then, to go for a walk, I have to follow a set of rules: I can’t go out naked,
nor in pajamas or a bathrobe; I can’t litter. And maybe my wife wants to go out
with me, so I also have to consider where she wants to go.
But these limits are NOT a negative thing: overall, no, because human beings
find fulfillment in social life.
